In this webinar, we'll discuss some of the major plants that can be used for food and medicine in emergency situations. We'll start with the big four, which have been referred to as the four survival supermarkets—pine trees, oak trees, cattails, and grass. We'll show the many foods, medicines and other survival uses that can be made of these plants.
Next, we'll cover the major weeds that are good for food and/or medicine. These are plants most people are familiar with as garden weeds. They grow all over North America. We'll talk about identifying them, harvesting them, and using them. Specifically, we'll cover dandelion, mallows, plantain, purslane, clover, thistles, burdock, kudzu, pigweed (lambs quarters and red root), and stinging nettle, plus a few others.
