Helping People Recover from Trauma: Unresolved trauma is at the base of many people's health problems

Most people have faced some form of trauma in their lives. People who have the strong support of family or friends will usually recover from the emotional shock such events cause, but often people don’t have the support needed to fully heal from traumatic life events. When this happens, the unresolved emotional shock and trauma will adversely affect their health.

The severe form of this is PTSD, which can lead to a high level of anxiety, depression, suicidal tendencies, addiction, and other problems that can make functioning in normal life difficult. But, unresolved trauma doesn’t just manifest as PTSD. It also manifests in emotional and physical conditions that allow us to function, but rob us of good health and peace of mind.

Emotionally, mental obsession, worry, chronic anxiety or nervousness, irritability, and mild depression may all be the result of traumatic events a person has experienced from which they never fully recovered. Often these events occur in early childhood and the person may not be consciously aware of what happened or how it adversely affected them.

This unresolved trauma can also manifest in physical health issues. The heart and circulation, as well as the immune system, are typically susceptible to the aftereffects of trauma. It can contribute to high blood pressure, arrhythmia, and angina, for instance. It can also make one more prone to infections, autoimmune disorders, and even cancer.

With the many troubling things happening in the world right now, from inflation and food shortages to international conflicts and war, it’s vitally important we know how to help people heal from the emotional shock caused by traumatic events, both current and past.

Join us for this special herbal hour and learn how plants can aid the process of healing from shock and trauma, especially in the form of flower essences and essential oils.
