Improving Hormonal Balance in Men: Imbalances in men’s hormones can contribute to weight gain, depression, prostate problems, loss of libido and increased risk of cancer and heart disease

Many men in modern society are suffering from hormonal imbalance. Men are exposed to too many estrogens and often have too little estrogen. It has been estimated that close to 40% of men over 45 have low levels of the male hormone testosterone. 

Testosterone creates the characteristic features that have traditionally made  a “man a man,” such as strong muscles, facial and body hair, ambition and competitiveness, and sexual drive. When a man’s testosterone level gets too low he can experience a loss of muscle tone, weight gain, a loss of drive and motivation that results in depression, hair loss and thinning and low libido. Low testosterone can also contribute to memory loss, weaker bones and an increased risk of heart disease. 

Excessive exposure to estrogens, primarily through xenoestrogens (chemicals which mimic estrogen) is also taking its toll on men’s health. Although men naturally produce a small amount of estrogen, just like women produce a small amount of testosterone, too much estrogen results in prostate problems, loss of sex drive, and the development of male breasts. It also increases the risk of prostate cancer.
