Thyroid disorders are very common in this country, but they are ten times more common in women than they are in men. About 2% of all women suffer from diagnosable hypothyroid (low thyroid) and about 0.2% of men. Some researchers believe that this disorder is often misdiagnosed and that the actual incidence of thyroid problems is much higher. When your thyroid is low, you may feel like your “get up and go” got up and left. Your energy and mood will be lower, you will feel colder and have a lower sex drive and your hair and skin will suffer. Since the thyroid regulates fat metabolism, it may also be difficult to maintain your ideal weight.
Hypothyroidism isn’t the only thyroid problem we face, either. Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis, an autoimmune disease of the thyroid, and Grave’s Disease, a hyperactive (or overactive) condition of the thyroid, are also increasingly common. About 80% of cases of thyroid disorders involve a hypoactive thyroid and the other 20% is an overactive thyroid (as in Grave’s disease).
In this herbal hour, we give you some additional information on how you can determine if your thyroid may be the source of some of your health problems. We also share ways of rebuilding thyroid health naturally for various types of thyroid conditions. With the growing number of people experiencing thyroid problems, this is one program you shouldn’t miss.
