In his essay on Self-Reliance, the famous American philosopher, Ralph Waldo Emerson, wrote "An institution is the lengthened shadow of one man." The statement is every bit as true today as it was when he wrote it. In any family, business, church or social group, there is always one person who is the principle leader. The leadership, or lack thereof, of this individual determines the energy of the whole group.

When you are the business owner, president or CEO, this is especially true. Everything that goes on in your business is a reflection of you. You may think you can blame what is happening on the economy, your customers, your competitors, your employees or whatever, but when you are the one in charge, it is your energy that is setting the tone for the entire organization.
