Amino acids are the building blocks of protein, and the foundation for the body’s structure and function. DNA is the blueprint for assembling amino acids into various proteins, which form the basis of cellular structures, enzymes, neurotransmitters, hormones and other essential components of the body. So for optimal health it is important that you get the right amounts of the the different amino acids in your diet on a regular basis.
In addition, supplementing with specific amino acids can help with overcoming specific health issues. For example, supplementation with arginine creates more nitric oxide, which can help to lower blood pressure. Supplementation with tryptophan (or its derivative 5-HTP) will enhance the neurotransmitter serotonin, which helps to elevate mood. And these are just a few basic examples.
In this Sunshine Sharing Hour, we'll talk about the importance of protein and the amino acids found in it. We'll also talk about how cells use amino acids to construct the molecular machines that run all body processes. We'll also talk about all 22 amino acids and discuss how they can be used to improve and maintain optimal health.
